Cee and I have been looking for ways to increase the joy in our lives. We’ve been exercising our “joy muscles” by finding the things that bring us joy and opening ourselves up to others. It’s been great fun.
One thing that we needed to do was to figure out what joy felt like. If you are any normal adult, you’re probably used to saying “I’m fine” whenever anyone asks how you are. We have all learned to stuff down and ignore our feelings. It’s easier to pretend to be fine than to really look at how our day, and our lives are going.
So we started by putting an app on our phone that helps us track joy. Daylio is a mood tracker and easy way to journal without having to type much. Pick an emotion, add the activity you are doing and you’re done. Instant journaling. You can add a note if you like, and expand the library of emotions and activities to customize your personal tracker. It’s so easy and fun to do.
Daylio lets you really see how you are doing, without the “I’m fine”-itis.
It’s a fun tool to use. Get to really know yourself. Understand and remember how your day went. See the statistics of how you are living your life. I bet it will surprise you.

Note from Cee: I started using Daylio and was amazed at how good I actually feel on a day by day basis. With Lipedema I spend a lot of my day in compression garments and elevating my legs. I used to feel bad about how much “sitting time” I have.
When I added feelings for playing games while elevating my legs with my knee compression garments on, I realized that I actually felt good and even feel optimistic because I am doing something good for myself. It’s replacing the old tapes in my head that says “I’m fat and lazy” to “I’m actually helping myself heal”. Now that is big time joy!
